What to look for when choosing a Childminder

What to look for when choosing a Childminder

As a parent, you want the best care for your children and should demand the highest standards. Quality childminders offer a professional service in a warm, caring, family atmosphere and support the developmental needs of the child with planned daily activities. Childminders operate small childcare settings at the heart of a home. Quality childminders present the best care & protection for your children with written policies and procedures; insurance and a commitment to ongoing training.

Galway City & County Childcare Committee supports both parents and childminders in ensuring that children are cared for in the best possible way in a home-from-home environment. Parents are welcome to contact any of our Development Officers to make enquiries regarding any aspect of childminding. One of their main roles is to inform parents about the options available and to offer guidance when choosing a childminder. Avoiding a stressful childcare situation is a priority. Sub-standard care is not acceptable for your child. Childminders and parents who contact us know that by doing so, they have access to creating a standard of care that is built on basic professional requirements.”

By contacting Galway City & County Childcare Committee, parents receive a list of childminders as well as a free information booklet regarding questions to ask and steps to take when seeking a childminder. They also learn about the legislative and regulatory requirements that Childminders need to adhere to. For example, Childminders can mind a limit of 5 pre-school children. Childminders have access to Galway City & County Childcare Committee free supports and training and, as a minimum, should have first aid and insurance in place as well as Garda Vetting, when setting up their service.

Galway City & County Childcare Committee’s website (www.galwaychildcare.com) has a section dedicated to Childminding as well as up-to-date information on all childcare issues. Parents are welcome to contact any of our Development Officers in Galway City & County Childcare Committee at 091 752039 or mail@galwaychildcare.com.
